Chicken Run

Meet Councillor Fiona White (right)

She was first elected to Guildford Borough Council in 1991, representing Ash, where she still lives.

Inexplicably, she jumped ship from Ash in 1999 to stand and represent the people of Stoughton. That also happened to be the year that the Conservatives recaptured all the seats in Ash, so perhaps Cllr White sensing the writing was on the wall decided to do what is known in the trade as a chicken run.

This year, Cllr White has decided to fly the coup and won't be standing in Stoughton, but will instead be pitching up nearby in Westborough, where she is also a County Councillor.

Are you thinking what I am thinking? Well I guess we will know on Friday.

Lib Dem activity is patchy, but as they target specific seats, that is not surprising. In certain places they seem very demoralised or have poor candidates. Some of their leaflets this time around have contained palpable falsehoods and a large number of seriously silly claims that are likely to lose them votes. A sure sign of their realising that they were in difficulties in Guildford was the sudden, recent activity amongst Not Lib Dem elements in the blogosphere and the recent efforts of those clowns at the Surrey Advertiser. Something similar happened when the Lib Dems realised that Anne Milton was ahead at the last General Election.

I hadn’t noticed that Fiona White was seeking re-election in a different ward, albeit it being “next to” her old ward. Curious.
